Immunizations and Vaccinations

No need to search for school, travel, or workplace immunizations and vaccinations: Stat Health can be your source right here in Rockland County New York. We work hard to accommodate your schedule on short notice.

What are vaccinations and why are they needed?

Immunizations are weakened disease organisms or proteins from them. They are introduced into your body in order for your immune system to produce antibodies. After a few days to weeks, enough antibodies are produced that can prevent, or greatly reduce, illness if you are exposed to the full strength disease. Immunizations also prevent the spread of diseases.

I heard vaccinations for children are dangerous and do not need them

There have been extensive studies which show children without the required immunizations have a significantly higher death rate as well as organ damage when exposed to preventable illnesses. In addition, most schools and day care centers will not accept children who have not received their appropriate vaccinations.

Infants are at risk if they do not receive several vaccinations before they are six months old. The most important is the DTaP: which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. There are several others they need as they get older, and some are given over a period of time. The most important ones, in addition, protect against measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, pneumonia, rotavirus, influenza, and chicken pox.

What about adults?

It does not matter whether you live in Rockland County New York or Moscow Russia: diseases do not geographic boundaries. Influenza is prevalent no matter where you live, and adults need annual vaccinations against it. Depending on your age and medical condition, you may also be at high risk for pneumonia, shingles, chickenpox, and/or meningitis. Some adults might want to consider the vaccine for human papilloma virus, which is given in a series of three doses. Other vaccines for adults include hepatitis A and hepatitis B.

Travel Vaccines

In order to enter many countries, including return to this one, there are mandated vaccinations required. Other immunizations are just common sense to protect you. Disease organisms are often found in food, water, and the environment. Which vaccines you need will be determined by where you are traveling to. You may be at risk if traveling to areas where polio, malaria, and other illnesses are common. We can help you determine what vaccines are required, and those in your best interest to take.
